OFAC listing removal uses a formal petition for administrative reconsideration through OFAC’s Reconsideration Portal under 31 C.F.R. § 501.807. This page explains the portal process in educational terms. For the firm’s broader OFAC SDN practice overview, see the OFAC list removal hub.

Abreu Law, PLLC works from Coral Gables, Florida, on OFAC-related petitions when retained. Call (305) 849-2962. A call is not a representation until the firm agrees in writing.

What is the OFAC Reconsideration Portal?

OFAC’s channel for listed persons, entities, or blocked property — through authorized representatives — to request courtesy documents or submit a delisting petition. A close name match is different; those inquiries usually go through OFAC’s Compliance Hotline, not a delisting petition.

Who can file a delisting petition?

A listed party may petition personally or through an authorized representative with proof of authority. Counsel often prepares the petition package, supporting exhibits, and responses to OFAC questionnaires.

What does 31 C.F.R. § 501.807 require?

Address every authority and listing criterion that applies. Support a change in circumstances, an insufficient basis for the listing, or both. Gather the exact listed name, UID, listing date, identity or registration records, aliases, addresses, and authorization proof before filing.

Petition ID, questionnaires, and timelines

OFAC endeavors to review completeness in about 7 to 10 business days. A complete filing receives a Petition ID; full substantive review can take much longer. Answer questionnaires fully and request extensions before deadlines when needed. Keep copies of every submission.

What happens after OFAC decides?

A grant can remove the listed party from the applicable list; a denial may be refiled later with new evidence. Name-match problems are not delisting petitions. Outcomes vary by facts and OFAC’s review — this page does not promise a result.

Short FAQ

Is the Reconsideration Portal the same as calling the Compliance Hotline?

No. The portal is for listed parties seeking administrative reconsideration or related petition filings. Name-match or screening questions are typically handled through compliance channels.

Do I need a lawyer to use the portal?

OFAC allows personal filings, but petition packages, evidence, and questionnaire responses are technical. Many petitioners work with counsel. Call (305) 849-2962 to discuss whether the firm can take the matter.

Where should I start if I am SDN-listed?

Confirm the exact listing and UID, preserve identity and corporate records, and review § 501.807 requirements with counsel before filing. See also the OFAC SDN list removal hub.
